SOUTHFIELD AREA GLASS SLIPPER BALL
FEBRUARY 16, 2008

"I believe
that I have the dubious distinction of being the most "senior"
Southfield Area Zontian. I've been a Zontian for 26 years. During
that time, I've attended Zonta events all over Michigan in my
capacity as District Governor, and all over the world as an International
Director. I've had more Zonta chicken than I care to think about.
It's fair to say that last week's Glass Slipper Ball was the FINEST
EVENT EVER!!! Not just for our club, but the finest of any I've
attended!
Alice and committee did a superb job! My guests were all extremely
complimentary (and a few of them aren't impressed easily!) I was
very proud to be a Zontian.
OK Ok...I've
been reminded that I've actually been a Zontian for 28 years.
That means that I have an even larger basis for comparison!!"

"Zontians,
Couldn't wait
until Thursday! One of my co-workers attended the ball and she
said she only had one question "How and what would we possibly
do to top this year's affair? Others are upset they didn't attend.
Isn't that Great!!!!!"

Hello All,
WE did an awesome job great team work. All of my guests had a
wonderful time they loved the food and the dancing. This was the
first time my son has ever been to something like this, he and
his date had a BALL. My son-in-law enjoyed all of the food. And
my daughter wanted to dance all night. My mother says thank you
to ALL she had a great time helping with the decorations, she
has made 27 or more new friends she loves you all. Thank you again
my Zonta sisters I will see you all Thursday.

Hello, Sister
Zontians,
My turn! We can all be very proud of our club. The guests at my
table were delightful. I was seated with two Area Directors (who
are sharing our story with the clubs in their area), the winners
from the TV spot (yes, I worked to recruit them as members), the
Major and his lady friend (they were a hoot) and Ann-Marie and
her husband, Donovan. A diverse group to say the least.
The cinderellas had a blast. Both read the program cover to cover
as we drove down. I made it clear to them I expected them to be
well-versed in our club, its mission, WC SAFE, etc. On the ride
home, they brainstormed potential members! Gotta love it.
I do have one request - can we confirm a date for 2009 in time
to promote at the movie event June 7th?
I'll miss everyone Thursday night - off to celebrate mine and
Dale's 4th Anniversary! XOXOXO

Glass Slipper
Ball Committee and Sister Zontians:
Awesome...that's
the word that comes to mind when I think about the Glass Slipper
Ball. One singular event by our Club to raise the awareness of
Zonta Club of Southfield to new heights. What the GSB Committee
chairs and members were able to pull off was phenomenal. Four
months to achieve what was accomplished is unheard of!
The food was delectable! I hope that our guests will mention our
affair the next time they visit one of our Restaurant Sponsors.
That will help to keep the momentum going to attract those that
didn't join us this year. The music was exceptional...and the
dancing was fun.
Sponsorship was incredible. What would we do without friends like
Diana Jones at Blue Cross Blue Shield. Her support continues to
reach those we are unable to in the community.
Special Thanks and appreciation to Debra K. for selling the idea
to the club, obtaining Sponsors, promoting the event and being
present when we needed her.
Everyone was tireless in their efforts to make this event a success.
How do you top this???
Congratulations and kudos to all!!!

the beauty of it all!!!!!!!!

TESTIMONIAL
FROM NON- ZONTIAN:
Gloria:
Thank you. We had an awesome time. I was very pleased with the
setup, entertainment, and food. I was certain that this was a
ball that you guys hold every year. It was so orderly and well
laid out. We really enjoyed ourselves and look forward to the
next one. I plan on attending the meeting on Feb. 28, 2008.
Thank you

RESPONSE TO
NON-ZONTIAN GUEST:
Hello Dorothy:
I am so glad
that you and your husband were able to attend the Glass Slipper
Ball. We were extremely pleased with the turnout, and our main
goal was to assure that all of our guests enjoyed themselves.
We have received great feedback from guests.
The club is
going to have a Membership Information Night, on Thursday, February
28, 2008, from 6:30 - 8:00 PM. It will be held at John W. English
Administrative Center (Southfield Public Schools), 24661 Lahser
Rd., Southfield, Mi. 48033. Zontians from throughout the tri-county
area are collaborating for the recruitment of new members. OF
COURSE I WANT YOU IN OUR SOUTHFIELD CLUB (SMILES).
That night,
you will learn more about the organization, and you can really
appreciate the club more. Please plan your schedule to attend.
I will look for you there. Also, if you would like Gregory to
attend, please have him come as well. Presently, it is a woman's
club, but we are contemplating accepting men members. Also, husbands
are always welcome to help out, attend meetings, or do whatever
they are comfortable doing when we have an event.
I plan to
see you tomorrow night, at 7:30 PM for the Family Day Meeting.
I will talk with you soon.
Be Blessed,
Gloria Tellis

Congratulations
and pats on the back are definitely deserved.
As a late-comer
to the process, I can only express pride and congrats Our club
did a fantastic job!! I won't be able to attend the afterglow,
but do have some comments:
I agree that it will be hard to "top" - so some changes
in the program each year will keep it "fresh" The program
and auction items booklets were very well done!
The food was excellent (and I enjoyed talking with the chefs)
The flowers
were fun - I liked having different florists maybe better signage
to know which florist did which centerpieces to give them more
recognition, or some sort of contest?
The silent auction went smoothly for our first in quite a while.
Checkout actually
went fairly smoothly, even with the credit card machine glitch
- great job Grace!I would suggest: better lighting more descriptions
of the items on the bid sheets (not just in the booklet)more/ongoing
promotion during the event - an integral part
instead of seeming separate closing earlier - anyone who wanted
to participate had to stay until about 11PM to find out if they
won and pay for/obtain their items enjoyed the different types
of music (jazz, various types of dancing) I enjoyed the dancing
performances - it was also great for my single guests to have
someone to dance with!!
More info about ZONTA available - in addition to in the program,
separate sheets for all supporters (we had multiple requests for
extra programs for the ZONTA info), maybe a display of some sort.
Recognition of our members (all stand, or all on stage for a minute,
or all with glass slipper pins,...) and what other clubs were
represented/in attendance
this is a ZONTA tradition - recognition also brings them back).
Definitely
start earlier planning. It should get easier with experience.
Take a deep
breath - the theatre party is around the corner!!

Hi Southfield
Zontians!
I just have
to jump in and say congratulations on a FABULOUS JOB!
There were
those who said it couldn't be done in five months! You not only
did it, you OUTDID it! You had the largest attendance of any first
year event! You had the first sponsorship of any 1st year event!
You had a celebrity emcee and over 100 Arthur Murray dancers!
And now you get to enjoy the afterglow of a job more than well
done - it was off the charts!
This event
was first and foremost blessed with a risk-taking president who
had a vision for your club. She knew that it was going to take
a big picture vision and goal to re-energize old members and re-kindle
and attract new members. Thank you Bea for your unwavering commitment
to your club and it's potential. That's leadership at it's best!
The next star
that lined up was having Alice as chairperson. She was as steady
and focused as they come. Even when the seas got rocky, she held
to her course. Leadership by example. How could anyone refuse
her when she was stepping up to the plate in a big fashion! Thank
you Alice for letting us witness just what a stay-at home grandmother
can accomplish!! You are remarkable and the fruits of your labor
paid off!
To all the
women who had been working behind the scenes for months, to the
amazing group that came on Saturday to pitch in as well as finish
up the night - it was a privilege to work with you. You remind
me of the very best in Zonta!
They'll be
lots of time to discuss the fine-tuning and where things can be
made better, but for now, I hope you embrace the celebration of
a job well done! The kind of pride you feel for your club, the
respect you've shown each other for differing opinions and skill
sets, the knowledge that now you've proven you can put Zonta on
the Detroit Map and acquire media interest, as well as the long-term
future of this event, where unprecedented amounts of money will
flow into your foundation - for all these reasons there is cause
to celebrate! Truly it's just the beginning of a whole new chapter
for the Zonta Club of Southfield. What an exciting time!
Congratulations
to all of you for whatever part you played , big or small , it
all added up to an amazing night for the attendees, for the funding
recipients and for Zonta.
Remember:
"Unforgettable Memories are the Most Enduring Trophies of
All!" Embrace your trophies and hold onto the memories!
With Respect
and Admiration,

Hi Everyone!
I think we did a great job. Perfect job ladies!!! the estimate
that the Silent Auction Team had of $5,000.00, was right on the
money! We now have a established record and starting point to
measure and gauge against.
I would like to personally thank each of you, for all your hard
work and dedication. For a first event, we were over the top.
The Silent Auction Profits met our projected earnings of $5,000.00.
You couldn't ask for more. Lynne, didn't we say $5,000.00.!!!
Also, I would like to thank our "Basket Team", Meredith,
Grace, Pam, and Gloria", we made all the baskets in one late-
afternoon!! Pam and Gloria added their creativity and design expertise,
and made those baskets look good!! We couldn't have done those
baskets without you!!!
